DESCRIPTION

Textile work combining Gel Plate Monotype and Hand Distressed Finishing. Featuring Andrei Rublev’s Trinity contained within a triangular structure on the front and Mikhail Vrubel’s Demon extending beyond a square structure on the back. Drawing on Dostoevsky’s distinction between beauty and the sublime, the composition brings together two opposing relationships with form: a beauty that can be ordered, understood and inhabited, and a sublime that exceeds the limits imposed upon it. Built through successive black and red printed layers and chemical aging processes, the surface continues to evolve through wear and washing.
